What to Do If You Smell Gas, and What We Do Next
If you smell gas, evacuate the affected area, do not operate electrical switches or create sparks, and call your gas utility’s emergency line and (610) 791-9100. When our technician arrives, combustible gas detection equipment locates the source, which is typically a failed fitting, a corroded pipe section, a loose flex connector at equipment, or a gas valve that is not seating. Once the area is secure and the repair is made, the affected section is pressure-tested before the system returns to service.
Not every gas call is an emergency. Low pressure at equipment showing up as ignition problems usually means an undersized supply line, often after new equipment was added without a supply evaluation, a partially closed cock upstream, or a failing regulator. We measure static and flowing pressure at the meter and at every appliance to determine whether the loss is on the building side or the utility side, then correct it and document the result.
