Commercial Air Handler Service and Repair

Air handlers move conditioned air through ductwork to every occupied zone in your building. When an AHU fails or underperforms, the impact cascades through the entire HVAC system as zone complaints, ventilation problems, and rising energy cost. Dual Temp Commercial Services provides diagnostic-driven service for constant volume, variable air volume, and dedicated outdoor air system air handlers across Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Air Handler Service Across Eastern PA

Zone Complaints Usually Start at the Air Handler

When several zones served by the same unit report temperature problems and the AHU appears to be running, the fault is almost always on the coil or airflow side: a loaded filter bank restricting airflow, a chilled water valve that will not open, a scaled heating coil, or a static pressure sensor feeding bad data to the supply fan VFD. Excessive fan vibration points to belt tension and sheave alignment on belt-driven units, or bearing wear on direct-drive fans. Stuffy interior zones and CO2 complaints point to the outdoor air section: a stuck damper, a failed actuator, or a ventilation sequence that never commands enough outdoor air.

Our technicians measure static pressure at multiple points, check coil delta-T, verify valve and damper stroke, and test fan performance to find the actual failure instead of chasing the complaint. Because Dual Temp also programs building automation systems, we correct the control sequence behind the symptom when the mechanical side checks out.

Air Handling Units We Service

Every AHU Configuration in Commercial Buildings

Air handler design dictates how it fails. Our technicians service each configuration along with the coils, drives, dampers, and controls that make it work.

Constant Volume Air Handlers

Single-zone and multizone units delivering fixed airflow to conditioned space. Service work centers on belt and bearing condition, coil cleanliness, filter loading, and mixing damper operation. Capacity complaints on these units usually trace to restricted airflow or a control valve that is not modulating, and both are confirmed with pressure and temperature readings rather than assumptions.

VAV Air Handlers & Variable Frequency Drives

Variable air volume units with VFD-driven supply and return fans responding to duct static pressure. Failures include drive faults, static pressure sensor drift, tracking problems between supply and return fans, and downstream VAV boxes starved of air. We verify drive output, sensor calibration, and static pressure setpoint against the design intent, then confirm delivery at the terminal boxes.

Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DOAS)

Units built to condition ventilation air for occupancy and humidity control, often with energy recovery wheels or plates. Common issues include recovery wheel belt and seal wear, frost control faults, condensate drainage problems, and demand-controlled ventilation running on a drifted CO2 sensor. We test damper stroke, actuator response, sensor accuracy, and the ventilation sequence to restore correct outdoor air delivery.
